Cambridge Baptist Church traces its origins to mission work that began in the early settlement of Salubria in 1891 with Pastor Elton. As Cambridge developed as a small railroad town, the First Baptist Church of Cambridge was formally founded on May 12, 1901.Two parcels of land were purchased on a hill overlooking the rail line one for the church building and the other for a parsonage. Baptist missionary, Mrs. Carrie Over, guided the early formation and development of the church. Reverend B. C. Cook served as the first pastor. In 1903, the Salubria and Cambridge Baptist Church united as one body, becoming what we now know as First Baptist Church of Cambridge. By 1906, a four-room parsonage had been constructed next to the church. While some financial support came from mission groups, most funding for the church and parsonage was provided through contributions from church members and the local community. As World War Il set in, the church participated in fundraising efforts and sent Bibles to soldiers overseas. While many men of the church were away at war it was often lay leaders who filled the pulpit and conducted worship servicesIn 1936, the church revised and adopted a formal constitution. Many updates and additions followed through the post war years. Throughout its history, the church has been supported by a dedicated congregation- who have given generously of their time and resources in service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and His church.

In present day, First Baptist Church of Cambridge is still hard at work in the community and among its members to spread the Gospel, equip the saints, and love God’s people within our community and around the world.
