Our History and Our Community
CFBC is a small, rural church of 85 members with an average Sunday attendance of 75. The church, established in 1901 by a woman missionary, has grown and undergone major remodeling through the years. The building has been well maintained by the generosity of both time and money by the membership and has no debt to service. A large part of the attendees and membership is tied to the town and surrounding agriculture area. Idaho and its rural communities tend to be conservative in their politics, which is usually tied to their religious
beliefs. Neighbors help and support neighbors with little regard for the church they attend.Cambridge First Baptist is a praying church with an active prayer chain, and a men’s prayer group. The congregation is multi-generational, and is reasonably open to change and new ideas. The members are active in and supportive of the community and its activities by providing service and hospitality.
Cambridge, Idaho is a beautiful little community nestled at the foot of Cuddy Mountain, and alongside the Weiser River. This area, at just under 3000 feet in elevation, enjoys four distinct seasons. The rolling valley is largely occupied by large farm/ranch operations, with cattle feeding on the sage-grass hills, while hay and grain operations dot the valley floor. Cambridge is the gateway to Hell’s Canyon, the deepest gorge on the North American continent and the pathway of the winding Snake River. The diverse country surrounding Cambridge offers abundant year-round recreational opportunities. The rivers, lakes, and reservoirs provide boating, swimming, water skiing, and diverse fishing. Our mountains provide winter sports activities of skiing and snowmobiling. The beautiful spring and fall seasons provide deer, elk, bear, and turkey
hunting opportunities. While the population within the city limits is small, the surrounding working population of farmers, ranchers, and loggers more than doubles the area population. The town has a wide range of services
with a grocery store, medical and dental clinic, restaurants, telephone office, library, lumber store, art gallery and craft store, gas station, museum, senior center, assisted living facility, post office, county fair grounds and rodeo arena, and a hiking/biking trail. A dedicated and hard working volunteer fire department with ambulance and certified medical technicians provides emergency services to the area. A hospital with emergency services is 30 miles away in Weiser. The public schools serve students in pre-K through twelfth grade. The elementary enrollment is approximately 50, as is the enrollment in the Middle/High School building. Besides a strong academic program with many dual credit college classes, these students are afforded many other opportunities as well, such as music, drama, art, leadership, shop classes, greenhouse and floral, to name just a few. In addition, the teams in football, basketball, track, wrestling and volleyball have been very competitive in league, district, and state events. The community churches include First Baptist, Assembly of God, Bible, Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist, and Latter Day Saints.
